The Oath
All witnesses are to be sworn in before they are to begin answering questions. This is to remind them that they must tell the truth.
The Bailiff is responsible for swearing in the witness when they come forth for questioning. Once the witness has taken the stand, the Bailiff will instruct the witness in the following fashion:
Bailiff: "Please raise your right hand. [Witness raises their right hand, then the Bailiff can proceed.] Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth?"
Once the witness has been properly sworn in, the prosecution will begin direct examination of their first witness.
